How to Select A Domain Name For My Business

The domain name for your business is your online identity. You should be very careful about choosing a domain name that is memorable, scores quite well with search engine listings, has a trust factor attached to it, and commands a brand value. A domain name is quite important for your business correspondences and emails. A long one can cause problems in communication, especially if the domain name seems complex. Here are some tips in choosing a well-meaning domain name that captures the essence of your brand image or business:

1. Keyword oriented or a unique domain name? If your website is going to have a crucial role to play in your business, then it is important to have an adequately researched keyword incorporated within the brand name. Use the most searched-for term in search engine queries, within your domain name. Prior to launching your online business, you should do some research through website tools to find out which keywords register the most number of traffic during a month. For example, if you want to make a website based on advising people, you will find that the keyword help is normally typed in the search engine query window a lot more frequently than the word aid. If your domain name includes targeted keywords, than you will get higher rankings in the search engines like Google and Yahoo. You should bear in mind that, apart from having the targeted keyword in your domain name, you should also have keywords in other parts of your site as well.

2. Use a company name only if you are famous: That is right. If your company name overwhelms the basic product name, then by all means go for the company name as your domain name. For example, people normally use the term Xerox rather than photocopy and if you are Xerox, then you should go for Xerox as a domain name because of the sheer popularity of the brand name. This is usually not the case, so using a keyword-rich domain name is a better move for most people. To be on the right side of balancing your business well, you should buy a set of two domain names, one that represents your business/brand name, and another that represents keywords or key phrases.

3. Keep your domain name short: The shorter your domain name, the more memorable it is. If your domain name has an every-day lingo, the better it is! More often than not, you may find that a simple two-word domain name is already taken. The alternative in this case, is to put a hyphen (-) to your targeted keyword and then add the other word. SEO experts are of the belief that hyphenating two or more words makes a long domain name more search engine friendly. The flip side is that people do not tend to write words with hyphens naturally, and there is a chance that if someone has recommended your site to a friend, the friend may find himself going to a competitor’s site. So one has to understand and undergo a lot of study while choosing a domain name. After all, it is one prominent thing that can dictate the flow of your business. Also, you should avoid putting numbers like 4 instead of for in your domain name. It will only lead to confusion.

4. Dot.com only: If you intend to have a website for commercial or business reasons, then by all means go for a website which ends in extension .com. The domain name companies will market other options like .org, .us, .net, etc. However, by all means try stick to .com for better mass appeal.

5. Register similar domain names: If you believe that in the future you are going to have a huge amount of people visiting your website through word-of-mouth advertising, then you should consider registering similar domain names that direct to your main URL (e.g. www.datinginformation.com and www.datinginfo.com). There are cyber-squatters who register domain names in the hope that they will be selling them for a profit to someone who really needs that domain name. Before they do this, you should register the domain names if you think that such a possibility can occur.

6. Be patient: You should not choose a domain name in minutes merely just to get it done and over with. A hasty decision may cost you a lot. It is better to invest time in research and arrive at the right kind of domain name. You should also discuss the comprehensibility and usage of the domain name with friends, neighbors and well wishers to find how simple and commonplace it really is.

Parents Of Child Actors – Register A Domain Name FAST!

Your child has done the hard part, breaking into show business, and the last thing on your mind as a parent is that somebody would try to use your child’s newfound fame to their advantage.

Your loss is their gain.

I recommend registering your child’s domain name as soon as your child a) works as a principal character in a TV show or film (has a credit on screen) or b) signs with an agent or manager. The reason for doing this as soon as possible is obvious: there are people out there who register domains of newcomers at the earliest opportunity. If you think to yourself “but my kid isn’t famous yet” you are kidding yourself. There is a segment of the population that will immediately notice a new girl or boy on a TV show and immediately start posting their name around the Internet for other people to see.

So what is a domain name and how do you register one?

A domain name is the “internet address” you use to find a particular web site. The domain name for the web site you are on now is “kidsinthebiz.com.” A popular domain name for a search engine is “google.com.” Most actors will register their domain name as “firstnamelastname.com.” There are also domain names that end in .us, .tv, .net, .org and hundreds more. Concentrate on the .com extension. Can you register a domain name if you don’t even have a web site? YES! In fact, many parents will simply register their child’s domain name and “park” it – not use it, just so somebody else can’t take it. They may or may not ever make a web site, but they know that somebody else can’t pretend to be their child with the domain name either.

One of the best places to register a domain name is a place called Go Daddy. It’s a funny name but one of the best. GoDaddy.com is known as a domain name registrar, a place to register domain names. Once you are at their site, type your child’s name (wthout spaces) into the “Start Your Search Here” box and click on “Go.” If the domain hasn’t been taken yet, click on Continue. You will be asked to buy a whole bunch of stuff you really don’t need so click on “No Thanks” to continue. You will then be asked to buy even more things, so just click on Continue again. You may have some things auto-selected for you like “Traffic Builder” – uncheck it and click on Continue again.

Eventually you will get to a checkout page that will have you double-check everything to make sure it is correct, as well as choose a payment method. If there is anything else in your cart besides the domain name, remove it! For 2 years it should only cost you about $18.40.

You can choose to pay by PayPal or by Credit Card. Select which one and then also put check marks into the boxes saying you have read the agreement and terms of service. (I suggest actually reading them too, although they are pretty standard) – then click on Checkout Now.

The next section will require you to put in personal information. IMPORTANT – this information will be public, and once it is out there, people CAN bring it uyp again even if you change it. For the telephone number I would suggest your agent or managers number, NOT your private home phone number. Cell phone is also fine if you don’t mind – but you will probably get calls on it. For address, again put your agent or manager’s address, or a post office box if you have one. If you put your real home address, remember this will be available for everybody to see.

Continue the checkout process. Once everything is done, that is it. Your domain is now officially “parked” and will be on the Internet in 4-24 hours. When people call up the domain name in their web browser, they will see godaddy’s “parked” page. If you ever build a web site for your child, or have someone build it for you, you will need to modify the settings in the GoDaddy control panel. Your web designer / web host should be able to help you with that.

Securing your child’s domain name early means it won’t be stolen later. Use your own judgment for when you feel it is the right time. Remember, if the .com is taken, you can try one of the other extensions, but even today, nothing is as good as a .com.

Coupon code, you must be aware of this term. Coupon code is similar as discount. Through using coupon code, you will get some discount on the original price. You can also say as rebate. Coupon code, discount, rebate, all three terms are similar. So don’t get confused. Whenever you try to buy something online, always try to get coupon code if it’s available. You can search the particular website for coupon code or ask the admin of website if they make available for their client. They will be happy to give you one. Now back to website, suppose you want to create website for promoting one of your product. First thing you will have to do is register a domain. Domain is generally the name of the website. There are lots of domain registrar companies. Domain comes in many extensions like .com, .net, .org and many others. Normally the rate of domain ranges from $8-$10 for premium extension like .com, .net, .org. There is another domain extension .info which cost very cheap like $1-$2 per domain. I will suggest you to go for .com domain only because they are most popular one and used by most people. Due to this reason, people have set their mind that website name will end with .com only. So if you have other extension then you will end up losing many potential visitors. If you use coupon code in buying a new domain name then you will get some discount. Like the Namecheap is providing coupon code every month. Their coupon code changes every month. Their coupon code entitles .88 cents off on every domain registration. The coupon code can also be used in transferring domain and renewal of domain to the namecheap. So here the Namecheap coupon code for October 2009.

Like Namecheap, many other domain registrar companies are also providing. Although they won’t publicly display the coupon code in their website, you will need to search for one in the search engine or directly contact them if they are providing. Since website don’t display many people end up buying in the same mentioned rate without taking advantage of coupon code. According to my experience, I have seen that most of the companies don’t give coupon code but the big names like godaddy.com, namecheap.com always do give coupon code. So always use coupon code to buy things online and save your hard earned money. So use coupon for saving money.

Domain Name Basics

The genuine identity of a domain is known as an IP address. Every website has an IP address associated with it. This is one of the basic building blocks of the internet. Because each IP address has to have a completely unique domain name, picking a good site name isn’t just vital for branding and your users, but perhaps more importantly for your SEO.

The term domain name could seem like a fussy term which has value just for PC whizzes and for those that spend days and nights not to far from their computers. The reality is the name domain is an easy geek term referring to the address of a Web site. To make it faster, site names are vital to sites in the same fashion that names are critical to people.

Like most numbers, IP addresses can be difficult to recollect and they are permanent meaning a new IP address for a new web host supplier. While an IP address is merely a chain of tricky to remember numbers, a domain name is something that may be given personality and can be easily recalled. Try to surf the Net and if you want to learn the site name of the site being viewed, study the browser bar. The last word or series of letters after the internet site name is the domain extension in which the site address is registered. The extension domains are frequently predated by a period which is read as dot. Both the name of the site, which I called the sub domain and the domain extension make up the complete website name of a site. Having your own site name does not come free because with registration comes payment.

By registering your website name, you have all the rights to control that web site name but just for a fixed number of years depending on the policy of the company where you bought your internet site name.

When that period and you would like to continue using the website name then you can replenish your contract.

When selecting the internet site name, you may choose up to 67 characters made from letters from A though Z or numbers from 0 to nine or a mixture of both numbers and letters as well as hyphens. The maximum of 67 characters includes both the sub website name and the site name extension. So if you wish to have an easy-to-recall site then you better start considering a clever website name, The key’s to make your internet site name familiar, simple to remember and kind of conveys to the user some idea of what the site contains. However, you can already register a site name even if you don’t have a site. On the other hand, registration of a web site name doesn’t carry with it a Web site. While some renowned domain registering companies not only offer domains at discount prices but also affordable and reliable website hosting, you can register your internet site name with them and make a selection from various website hosting firms. Never attempt to register an internet site name which has a trademark or name already belonging to another, unless you want to be subject to costly lawsuits and all kind of legal troubles.
